SCALPEL

By students, for students

SCALPEL has become a pivotal event within our surgical society, dedicated to advancing surgical education and fostering collaboration among medical students. Since its inception, it has featured insightful talks from esteemed speakers and hands-on workshops covering various surgical techniques, enhancing student engagement and practical skills.

Adapting to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Gimbernat Surgical Society successfully held a virtual second edition, showcasing resilience through pre-recorded conferences and discussions on important topics like humanism in surgery and the holistic management of medical careers. This was followed by a third edition that expanded to 90 participants and introduced innovative workshops across specialties, including Vascular Surgery and Urology.

The fourth edition marked a significant milestone as the first international SCALPEL symposium, attracting over 150 medical students from across Europe and featuring diverse workshops and discussions on topics such as artificial intelligence in healthcare.

This year, we are thrilled to announce SCALPEL VII, which has drawn around 200 students, including over 50 international participants. This growth reflects our commitment to providing a rich educational experience. We plan to enhance this year’s event with more interactive workshops and networking opportunities, ensuring participants gain valuable knowledge and connections for their medical careers.

We take immense pride in SCALPEL’s journey as it has evolved into an incredible learning opportunity for our surgical community. Each edition has significantly shaped the future of surgical practice, and the organizing team eagerly anticipates further growth and development of this outstanding event in the coming years.
