Poster submission and judging criteria

Guidelines for Submitting Posters

  • Submission Deadline: January 31, 2025.
  • Size: Posters should adhere to the standard size (typically A0, 841mm x 1189mm).
  • Font: Use easily readable fonts (e.g., Arial, Calibri, Times New Roman). Text size should be large enough for readability from a 1-2 meter distance:
    • Title: 72-120 points
    • Section Headings: 36-48 points
    • Body Text: 24-32 points

Participants will be able to present their posters to the jury and congress attendants at SCALPEL. 

  • Duration: Each poster presentation will last 10 minutes.
  • Schedule: Presentations will be held on February 14, 2025, from 12:00-13:00.

The jury will ask relevant questions about these aspects to assess both the content and execution of the poster presentation. The ability to respond effectively to the jury’s questions will also be evaluated.

Ethical and Copyright Considerations

Ensure that all images, charts, and data are your own or are used with proper permission. Include appropriate credits and references.

Ensure compliance with patient confidentiality and ethical standards in medical research.

Additional Information:

  • Only one poster per author. Unlimited authors per poster. 
  • Email submissions are not accepted.
  • Posters received after the deadline will not be accepted.
  • Posters that do not meet the above-mentioned requirements will not be accepted.
  • After the poster submission, no changes will be accepted under any circumstances

Judging Criteria

Posters will be assessed according to the following criteria:

  • Scientific Merit: This encompasses the originality and innovativeness of the research, along with its overall relevance and significance to surgery. The poster should demonstrate a distinctive approach or findings that meaningfully advance knowledge and practices in the field.
  • Clarity & Structure: Posters must exhibit clarity and logical organization, featuring distinct sections such as objectives, methods, results, and conclusions. Each part should be thoroughly presented and systematically arranged to enhance understanding.
  • Methods and Data: The evaluation will assess the suitability and rigor of the research methods applied. Emphasis is placed on the quality and reliability of the presented data, which underscores both the poster’s credibility and the comprehensive nature of its research methodology.
  • Results and Impact: Clearly present and interpret the results, highlighting their potential impact and wider implications within the field. This criterion evaluates how effectively these findings contribute to advancements or improvements in surgical practice.
  • Overall Presentation: The clarity and comprehensibility of the writing will be evaluated, alongside adherence to submission guidelines. This involves ensuring that the poster is well-organized, easy to read, and meets all specified criteria.
