SCALPEL VI

On February 13–14, 2025, the Gimbernat Surgical Society hosted SCALPEL VI, Spain’s only international surgical congress organized by students for students. With over 200 attendees from 20+ countries, the event offered a unique platform for learning, networking, and advancing surgical knowledge.
Dr. Manuel Pera's appointment

On June 15, our honorary president, Dr. Manuel Pera, was appointed a full member of the Royal Academy of Medicine and Surgery of Catalonia, one of the highest recognitions of professional excellence and scientific contribution in medicine.
XXVII Dr. Lino Torre Memorial

On May 23 at 12 p.m., the Sala Josep Marull hosted the XXVII Dr. Lino Torre Memorial, an event bringing together tribute, science, and excellence in surgical research. The program included the presentation of the XXVII Dr. Lino Torre Award for Surgical Research and featured Pierre-Alain Clavien as guest of honor. Prof. Clavien delivered the lecture “History and development of the CD classification over the years”, offering an insightful review of one of the most influential systems in modern surgery.
Les bates blanques

On November 18 2024, the presentation of Les bates blanques (The White Coats) took place, a book written by Xavier Giribés i Sala. Diagnosed with colon cancer in 2009 at the age of 50, Xavier faced the disease with determination despite an initially poor prognosis. During more than seven years of treatment and resilience, he decided to document his experience with a dual purpose: to offer an honest testimony of courage and hope, and to contribute to medical research.
Alberto Di Somma's talk

Titled “New Approaches in Neurosurgery: Concepts and Overview of the Mini-Invasive Routes”, Dr. Di Somma introduced us to the latest advances in minimally invasive neurosurgery, such as endoscopic transorbital surgery—an innovative technique that allows access to the skull base through the orbit, significantly improving patient recovery and reducing aesthetic impact.
Thinking Like a Plastic Surgeon

The Plastic Subspecialty Teaching Series – Surgical Decision Making is an international online educational initiative focused on clinical reasoning and decision-making in plastic surgery. Hosted by Sheffield Orthoplastic, the series brings together surgical societies from the UK, Spain, and Malaysia to provide a structured overview of plastic surgery subspecialties, enhance clinical thinking, and offer students insight into the everyday reasoning behind surgical decisions through case-based learning.
