SCALPEL I
Gimbernat Surgical Symposium 2020
On the past 24th of February we held our first Surgical Symposium for medical students.
We were honored to host insightful conferences by Dr. Salvador Navarro (Parc Taulí, Sabadell) on the ATLS management of polytraumatic patients and its implementation in Spain, as well as Dr. Julio Mayol (Hospital Clínico San Carlos, Madrid), who delivered a lecture on the future of surgery.
In addition to these enriching presentations, medical students from all Catalan faculties actively participated in dynamic workshops. They engaged in hands-on learning, experiencing the management of a polytrauma patient in a simulation room, practicing plastic surgery techniques such as skin grafts and flaps, suturing a cardiac valve in an animal heart, using arthroscopy devices with traumatology surgeons, refining ophthalmology surgical skills, attending suture workshops, and even participating in a medical escape room.
To foster interaction and knowledge exchange, a brunch was organized between the workshops, providing students with the opportunity to pose questions and discuss concerns with doctors and residents specializing in various fields.
As the day concluded, we gathered for a closing ceremony to express gratitude to all participants, with a special mention and appreciation extended to our professor, Dr. Manuel Pera, for his dedicated involvement in organizing the symposium.
